I have been to many auto glass repair shops before. Most of the time, I feel that I am paying an absurd amount of money for the work they are actually doing. I mean, it cannot be that hard to fix a small chip on my windshield. I mean, I see do it yourself kits all the time in the hardware store. Maybe next time I should just try one of those. They are much cheaper and probably work a lot faster than taking my car into a professional. I was wondering if your technicians could give me a little information about them. I mean, is it really that hard to fix a piece of auto glass with just a few small chips or is it that important that I take it into a certified professional? I would really appreciate all the information I could get. I am trusting that your company will not take me for a ride like many of the other auto glass shops I have been to. I just want some good information if it is really worth me taking my car to a professional or not. Thank you so much for any help you can give me. I really do appreciate it.

Dear Concerned Consumer,

Actually, fixing a chip or a crack on auto glass is quite difficult. Just because there are do it yourself kits available in the stores does not mean they are really going to work. In fact, they will most likely not do anything to make your auto glass strong like it should when you get chips or cracks fixed. You will most likely just be wasting time and money on do it yourself kits that do not fix anything.

When you take it into an auto glass repair shop, they are actually doing much more than you may realize. First off, with a do it yourself kit, you will simply put some type of adhesive into the crack and just let it dry. When you take it to a professional, they do much more than just this. In order for the adhesive to dry and do its job correctly, all of the air and dirt must be out of the crack or chip. This is done by using a large machine that will make sure that there is absolutely no air that could cause air bubbles in the adhesive. We then will apply the adhesive to the crack or chip and dry it. By doing so, you are getting your auto glass back to as strong as it was when you first purchased the vehicle. You will also not be able to notice the chip anymore because a professional knows how to get rid of the mark completely.

As you can see, a professional is actually doing much more than you may realize. If you have a crack of chip on your windshield, we always recommend hiring a professional to fix it. You will not get the same type of result when you try using a do it yourself kit.
